Out and about

Just 5 minutes from Mikarabee Villa you can find the sleepy town of Malvern in the parish of St Elizabeth. St Elizabeth. Here you can find a variety of shops, a police station, a Post Office, a petrol station and a number of small restaurants and ‘cook shops’.  The Malvern area boasts one of the world's healthiest climates, its air fresh and clean.  The Teachers Training College (Bethlehem Moravian) is located within Malvern.  A  five minute drive  on takes you to one of Jamaica’s most famous boys schools – Munro College and  equally as reputable girls school – Hampton School for Girls.

Mikarabee Villa has a privileged pivotal point. A 25 minute drive down one side of the mountain will find you in Treasure Beach, six miles of sandy beaches, private coves and rocky shorelines.  The four main beaches are well suited for swimming, snorkelling  and body surfing.  The people of Treasure Beach are laid back and friendly, and there are plenty of good places to eat. The home of community tourism, Treasure Beach offers you a time trip back to the days before corporations took over Caribbean tourism. Authentically charming and relaxing,  a trip down to Treasure Beach with Mitch or Britt will offer you a unique ‘off the beaten track’ experience.

A 20 minute drive down the other side of the mountain, heading inland, will find you in  Santa Cruz. Home to approximately 4,000 people, this busy bustling market town and lively “high street” is fantastic for picking up a bargain and doing experiencing the ‘real Jamaica’. Drive with Britt to drop her son to school and pick up some groceries before heading back up the mountain.

A 30 minute drive in another direction will find you in Black River, the capital town of St Elizabeth. Full of history and rich culture, it's an authentic market town and is home to various safari tour operators, who will ensure an exciting trip down the river to see the crocodiles in their natural habitat amongst the mangroves.
